Police questioned Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Dong-a as the complainant after she filed a criminal complaint against independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon over allegations that he leaked investigative materials related to Minister candidate Kim Seung-won.
Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul summoned lawmaker Kim Dong-a for questioning on the 13th. Appearing that day, Kim said, "Lawmaker Han claims he received the materials through a public-interest report, but evidence obtained through a search and seizure is not something a third party can obtain other than the prosecution, the defendant, and defense counsel."
She added, "Police must thoroughly investigate from whom lawmaker Han Dong-hoon received this vast set of investigative records," and said, "We will root out the rotten foundations of political prosecutors who privatized investigative agencies and mocked the rule of law."
Earlier, lawmaker Han claimed that prosecutors who investigated the so-called "favoritism allegations over approval of a COVID-19 new drug clinical trial" involving candidate Kim Seung-won came under outside pressure and gave Kim a decision to suspend indictment. He also disclosed the "indictment plan" drafted by the prosecution's investigative team at the time.
Lawmaker Kim Dong-a filed a complaint with the Korean National Police Agency National Office of Investigation (NOI), saying lawmaker Han leaked official secrets by disclosing the indictment plan. The case was assigned to the Yeongdeungpo station.
The Yeongdeungpo station is also handling a case in which candidate Kim Seung-won has been accused in connection with the favoritism allegations over approval of a COVID-19 new drug clinical trial, including violations of the Political Funds Act and the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
