In Ganghwa, Incheon, a man in his 20s who stabbed and injured his mother in her 60s with a knife was taken into custody by police.
On the 12th, the Incheon Ganghwa Police Station said it arrested a man in his 20s, identified only as A, on suspicion of attempted parricide and is questioning him after detaining him at the scene.
A is suspected of attempting to kill his mother, B, in her 60s, by stabbing her multiple times in the face and neck with a knife at a single-family home in Naegamyeon, Ganghwa County, Incheon, at about 10 p.m. on the 11th.
Right after the crime, A called 119 and said, "My mother is bleeding." Police who rushed to the scene then arrested A in the act.
B suffered injuries to the face and neck and was taken to a hospital, but her life was not in danger, according to reports. She was reported to have been discharged after receiving treatment.
A was said to have long suffered from a mental illness.
Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant on suspicion of attempted parricide after questioning A about the specific motive and circumstances of the incident.
