A man of unknown identity was found dead in a vacant house that caught fire. Inside the house, authorities also found signs that someone had been living there, and police are working to confirm the exact identity.
According to fire authorities on the 11th, at about 10:58 p.m. on the 10th, a fire broke out at a vacant house in Hwayang-myeon, Yeosu, Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City.
Family members living in another area reportedly learned of the fire through a closed-circuit (CC) TV installed at the house and called it in. Fire authorities dispatched on the report fully extinguished the blaze at about 12:41 a.m. on the 11th.
The dwellings was reportedly an abandoned house that had been left unattended for more than 10 years.
While fighting the fire, fire authorities found a man of unknown identity dead in an inner room of the house. Inside, they also found traces suggesting someone had been living there, such as household goods.
A man in his 60s, a cousin of the owner, was said to have used the place from time to time, but the exact identity of the man who died has not yet been confirmed.
Police and fire authorities plan to identify the deceased through DNA analysis and investigate the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances of the death.
