Kim Seung-won, the Ministry of Justice Minister nominee, was found to have previously made a false resident registration move for minor children.
On the 11th, according to legal sources, the nominee Kim's eldest daughter and eldest son, who were living in Jeonju, North Jeolla, filed a move-in report in Feb. 2006 to Apartment A in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, when they were 9 and 6 years old, respectively.
By contrast, the nominee Kim and spouse and their second daughter, who was 2 at the time, moved on Mar. 6, 2006, a week later, to Apartment B in Sinheung-dong, Sujeong-gu, Seongnam, owned by the nominee Kim's spouse. This is about 10 kilometers away from Apartment A, where the eldest daughter and son changed their address.
After that, the nominee Kim, spouse, and second daughter moved 2 years and 8 months later, in Oct. 2008, to Apartment A, the address of the eldest daughter and son.
On the resident registration, it appears the two young children lived at a different address from their parents for about 2 years and 8 months.
Seohyeon-dong, where Apartment A is located, is known within Bundang for its school district favored by parents.
Regarding this, the nominee Kim's confirmation hearing preparation team said, "We regret that for educational purposes the actual residence and the resident-registered residence did not match," and added, "We will explain the specific circumstances in detail at the confirmation hearing."
