The mother of Jang Yoon-jeong, who was indicted on charges of taking 31 million won from an acquaintance as an investment by mentioning her daughter, the famous singer Jang Yoon-jeong, was sentenced to 10 months in prison in the first trial.
On the 10th, Seo Beom-jun, Director General judge of the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 2 Single-Judge, sentenced Jang Yoon-jeong's mother, a person surnamed Yuk (70), who was detained and indicted on fraud charges, to 10 months in prison.
Director General Judge Seo said, "The defendant acknowledges and confesses the criminal facts, and considering the victim's statement and the defendant's account transaction history, all the charges are found guilty," adding, "Given the method and the result, the nature of the crime is poor, and the victim has not been made whole."
Yuk was put on trial on charges of taking a total of 31 million won from an acquaintance in three installments as an investment by mentioning her daughter, the famous singer Jang Yoon-jeong, from September 2024 to August last year.
It was found that Yuk fabricated messages as if she had reconciled with her daughter, from whom she had been estranged for decades, and showed them to the victim. It was also reported that she deceived the victim with the lie that celebrities were participating in the investment and generating considerable revenue.
The court considered as unfavorable circumstances that in 2018 Yuk was also sentenced to imprisonment for failing to repay a little over 400 million won she borrowed from an acquaintance, and that she was recently given a summary order for fraud.
However, it took into account as favorable circumstances that Yuk acknowledges the crime and that her health condition is not good.
Earlier, at the first hearing held on the 27th of last month, prosecutors asked the court to sentence Yuk to one year and six months in prison, saying, "Even though there is a prior record of a prison term for fraud using a similar method, it has come to this case."
At the time, Yuk's side admitted all the charges and expressed deep remorse, appealing for leniency by saying, "I needed living expenses and credit card payments, and the misappropriated funds were also spent on living expenses."
Police were also said to have had difficulty securing Yuk's whereabouts during the investigation.
After receiving the victim's complaint, the Seoul Songpa Police Station tracked Yuk's whereabouts, but for a time could not determine her location because mobile phone and credit card usage records could not be confirmed.
Continuing the pursuit, police located Yuk in mid-July, arrested her, and then detained her.
