The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said on the 9th that starting next month it will also notify sex offender registry information through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Gukmin Secretary."
By adding "Gukmin Secretary" as a new notification channel to the existing KakaoTalk and Naver electronic documents, authorities plan to enable quicker checks of sex offender registry information.
Sex offender registry information has been notified by mail since 2011 and sequentially by mobile since 2020. About 6.5 million notifications are sent annually to heads of households protecting children and teenagers under 19 living in areas where sex offenders reside.
Gukmin Secretary users can receive the relevant sex offender registry information by directly selecting and applying for the "sex offender registry notification" service in the alert settings.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will register the Gukmin Secretary service introduction and application menu on the 10th and conduct a pilot in one administrative neighborhood. After checking system stability and the information delivery process, the service will be fully implemented starting in Oct.
Kim Seong-cheol, director-general for safety and human rights policy at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, said, "By adding a highly trusted channel that many people use, we expect to increase the reach of sex offender registry information and make the safety net for households protecting children and teenagers even tighter."
