Three Ulsan public officials on a trip heard cries of "save me" from the night sea, found a woman in her 50s who had fallen among the tetrapods, and rescued her without injury.
On the 9th, according to Jung-gu, Ulsan, Assistant Deputy Director Jung Ho-yeon of Byeongyeong 2-dong in Jung-gu, Assistant Deputy Director Choi Se-chang of the Economic Policy Division in Nam-gu, and Assistant Deputy Director Choi Han-seok of Duseo-myeon in Ulju-gun left on a one-night, two-day trip to Gampo-eup, Gyeongju, on the 5th. The three are classmates from new public official training.
At about 8:58 p.m. on the first day, after buying snacks at a convenience store near the beach and heading back to their lodging, they saw a woman climb the pier stairs and move over toward the tetrapods.
Assistant Deputy Director Jung and the others judged it could be dangerous and ran straight toward the tetrapods. But they could not see the woman, and in the darkness they heard only cries of "save me" and sobbing.
They immediately called 119 and searched between the tetrapods, finding Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, stranded below.
Without hesitation, the three bent down, grabbed Ms. A by the shoulders, and pulled her up together to rescue her.
They then brought a blanket from the lodging, covered Ms. A, who was shivering from the cold, and helped her stay calm until paramedics arrived.
After receiving treatment from responding paramedics, Ms. A returned home safely.
Ms. A said, "The three are benefactors who risked danger in the dark to save my life," and added, "I will not forget that you held my hand without hesitation and will live each day diligently."
Assistant Deputy Directors Jung Ho-yeon, Choi Se-chang, and Choi Han-seok said, "Our bodies moved first with the thought that we had to help somehow," and added, "We believe we did what we should naturally do as public officials, and above all, we are relieved that the woman returned home safely."
