After a woman in her 60s was found dead in a freezer storage at a cafe in Paju, Gyeonggi, a cafe in Yongin, Gyeonggi, that uses the same name has been harmed. Although it is a separate establishment unrelated to the case, misunderstandings have continued because the name is the same, and the cafe issued a direct explanation.
On the 7th, the Yongin cafe posted a notice on a portal site's news section, saying, "In connection with the recent incident in Munsan-eup, Paju, the same name has been mentioned, and inquiries and misunderstandings are continuing."
The cafe said, "The current owner has taken over the existing establishment and has been operating it separately since Nov. 2023," adding, "The cafe in Paju where the incident occurred is a completely different, separate establishment with a different current owner and operator."
It added, "It appears confusion is arising because the same name is being used," and repeatedly stressed, "There is no connection whatsoever with the incident."
It continued, "Please ensure that unverified information does not cause misunderstandings that harm the cafe and its employees," and said, "We will continue to provide service as usual so customers can visit with peace of mind."
Earlier, a woman in her 60s, identified as A, was found dead in a refrigerated container next to a large cafe in Munsan-eup, Paju. Police believe B, a cafe operator in their 30s, is suspected of killing A and arrested B on the 6th.
A and B reportedly met for the first time on the 3rd for a department store gift certificate transaction. Closed-circuit (CC) TV inside the cafe is said to have captured the two entering the refrigerated container together, with only B coming out alone.
Hundreds of billions of won worth of department store gift certificates suspected to be counterfeit were also found inside the refrigerated container. Police are investigating whether the gift certificates are forged and the motive for the crime.
