A man in his 30s died on the 8th while doing diving work in waters near Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), at about 11:20 a.m. the same day, a worker identified as A, employed by a partner company of Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), was found not breathing while doing diving work on the seabed near Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
The Yeosu Coast Guard deployed a rescue team, pulled A to the surface, and transported the worker to a hospital, but A died.
A reportedly entered the water with one colleague to retrieve a tidal current observation device installed on the seabed at a depth of about 20 meters for a marine environment survey.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said, "We took stern measures, including immediately launching an accident investigation and halting the work," and noted, "We will be strict in investigating the cause of the accident and whether there were violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act."
