In a park in Cheongju, North Chungcheong, a woman in her 20s who was forced to fight two teenage girls in succession under the so-called "yacha rule" died. Police arrested two people on charges of coercing the fights. The "yacha rule" is slang for a style of bare-knuckle fighting without rules or protective gear.
On the 8th, Cheongju Sangdang Police Station said it arrested two people, including a person identified as A, on charges of joint coercion for forcing a woman in her 20s, identified as B, to fight two teenage girls.
The two, who are in a romantic relationship, are accused of forcing B to fight two teenage girls, including a girl identified as C, in turn at a park in Yongam-dong, Cheongju, at about 12:20 a.m. on May 29.
During the incident, B was assaulted by C and others, went into cardiac arrest, and was taken to a hospital but ultimately died.
At the time, A and others reportedly told police that "B fell while playing tag and lost consciousness when B's face was pressed under the buttocks of someone following behind."
However, based on an autopsy of the body and an analysis of seized cellphones, police reportedly found indications that A and others coerced them into fighting even though B and C had said they did not want to fight.
Police are also investigating without detention two teenage girls, including C, who fought B, on charges of injury causing death.
