Korea University Advancement Association said it filed a petition with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), claiming its members suffered human rights violations during the process of being subdued after unlawfully entering the U.S. Forces Korea Osan Air Base (K-55).
Korea University Advancement Association held a press conference titled "Condemning the 7th Air Force's acts of violence" in front of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 8th and stated accordingly.
Korea University Advancement Association said, "The students went to Osan Air Base to protest the 7th Air Force's interference in Korea's semiconductor industry," adding, "What the students held in their hands was a single picket, but U.S. Forces Korea pushed them down, pinned them with a knee, and handcuffed them."
Korea University Advancement Association said, "In the process, the students suffered injuries such as stretched ligaments, shoulder injuries, and abrasions on their arms, as well as psychological harm."
Korea University Advancement Association demanded that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) thoroughly investigate human rights violations by the 7th Air Force, Pyeongtaek Police Station, and Pyeongtaek Detention Center.
Earlier, prosecutors indicted three members of Korea University Advancement Association on charges including violating the Military Bases and Installations Protection Act and joint trespassing into a building. Two were indicted under detention, and one was indicted without detention after a court granted a review of the validity of the arrest.
They are accused of unlawfully entering Osan Air Base in Seotan-myeon, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, at about 10:15 a.m. on the 4th of last month, shouting slogans such as "Let's smash the 7th Air Force," and filming related videos. A total of eight members of Korea University Advancement Association entered the base at the time, and police referred three of them, judged to face more serious charges, to prosecutors.
