Police said they have no plans to summon and question former Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-gyu again over allegations that he improperly intervened in the appointment process of former national team head coach Hong Myung-bo to give special favors.
An official at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said at a regular press briefing on the 7th that "there could be additional questioning in the process of reaching a conclusion, but there are no particular plans at the moment" regarding whether to summon him again.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the SMPA's Major Crime Investigation Division summoned former President Chung as a suspect on the 2nd over allegations including obstruction of business. Leaving the questioning, Chung said to the effect that "there was no improper intervention at all."
Police also said the investigation into allegations of embezzlement and bribery involving National Agricultural Cooperative Federation President Kang Ho-dong of NongHyup is well underway.
New SMPA Commissioner Ko Beom-seok said, "A significant part of the ongoing bribery case has progressed," adding, "There are several additional cases referred by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and investigating them together seems to be taking some time."
Police are also currently investigating three cases filed in connection with Starbucks Korea's controversial "May 18 Tank Day" event, which have been consolidated. Police raided Starbucks' headquarters last month and are continuing to analyze the seized materials and question those involved.
Police are also conducting an investigation into Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine on suspicion of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud. Police searched and seized five entities under the Jaseng Medical Foundation, including Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, and are analyzing the materials obtained.
