The labor union Donghaeng, centered on the Device eXperience (DX) institutional sector that is in charge of Samsung ElectronicsSamsung Electronics(005930) finished goods business, ran an ad opposing job cuts on the Times Square billboard in New York.
On the 5th (local time), Donghaeng said it broadcast a 15-second video on the Times Square billboard in New York every hour at the 35-minute mark starting at midnight, reading, "Great Products Begin With People. 위대한 제품은 사람으로부터 시작됩니다. WE ARE STILL HERE. 우리도 아직 여기 있습니다."
Donghaeng said, "Under the name of AI transformation (AX), the company is breaking down tasks, measuring efficiency, and calculating the personnel it thinks are needed," and argued, "If AX is being used as a pretext for personnel streamlining that reduces people, it must stop."
In connection with the case in which the Samsung Group supra-enterprise labor union's Samsung Electronics branch compiled a "blacklist" containing whether roughly 100,000 executives and employees had joined a union, Donghaeng also asked authorities to confirm whether its members suffered any personal data leaks.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Electronics DX institutional sector Donghaeng union says the DX institutional sector was sidelined during labor-management wage talks and that the compensation gap with the Device Solutions (DS) institutional sector, which handles the semiconductor business, is excessive. The union plans to hold rallies and solo protests starting on the 18th near the home of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong in Yongsan District, Seoul.
