On the 5th, ten days after a catastrophic flood swept the Himalayan mountain region along the Nepal-China border, a Chinese national was rescued from a hydropower plant tunnel by a joint Nepal-Korea search team, local time.
Raja Ram Basnet, the Nepal Army Spokesperson, said a Chinese national was rescued "from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli (UT)-1 hydropower plant construction site" in Rasuwa, Bagmati Province in the north-central region that day. The Chinese national was rescued at the plant where nine missing Koreans were reported to have been working.
The army said a joint rescue team composed of Nepal Army personnel and Korean disaster experts found a Chinese man, Lu Haitao, at the 225-meter (m) point inside the tunnel. Army medical staff are said to be checking the health condition of the Chinese employee.
On the 26th, a catastrophic flood occurred upstream in the Himalayan mountain region, leaving more than 1,200 people dead and more than 5,000 missing in Nepal and China, which share the border.
Meanwhile, this survivor rescue is the ninth since the establishment of the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) in 2007. KDRT rescued eight people during the 2023 earthquake in Turkiye.
