A Chinese tourist accused of illegally filming women's bodies while moving through crowded areas such as Seongsu-dong in Seoul and Mapo District has been handed over to prosecutors.
According to police on the 4th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul on this day referred a Chinese national in his 20s, identified as A, without detention on suspicion of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (camera-based filming).
A, who entered Korea in July, was arrested in the act on the 4th of last month at a cafe in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong District, Seoul, on suspicion of secretly filming a woman's body.
Based on A's mobile phone and other evidence, police investigated whether there were additional offenses, and it was reported that they confirmed he illegally filmed women in several areas of Seoul, including Mapo District, Yeongdeungpo District, and Seongsu-dong.
Police have identified a total of 27 victims.
During the investigation, police imposed an overseas travel ban on A on the 5th of last month to prevent departure, then completed the probe and referred the case to prosecutors on this day.
