A landslide in Mogok-ri, Seo-myeon, Hongcheon County, Gangwon, sent rocks rolling continuously and prompted the emergency evacuation of 16 residents.
According to the Gangwon Fire Headquarters and others on the 4th, a report came in at about 7:49 a.m. that "there is a continuous sound of rocks falling from the mountain."
Fire authorities, police, and Hongcheon County evacuated 16 nearby residents to the village hall and are controlling access to the site in case of additional landslides. Ten pieces of equipment and 22 personnel have been deployed to carry out safety measures.
Rocks continue to fall at the scene, making it difficult to approach the exact point where the landslide occurred. Relevant agencies set up safety control lines and are assessing the situation from a certain distance.
One storage building that housed farm machinery was buried by the landslide. No injuries have been reported so far, and there appears to be no damage to private homes.
There were no indications of separate construction work in progress or solar facilities installed near the landslide site.
From the 31st of last month to the 2nd of this month, 45.8 mm of rain fell over three days in the area. Authorities plan to conduct emergency repairs and investigate the exact extent of the damage and the cause of the landslide, considering the possibility that recent rainfall weakened the ground.
