Sejong city said it "sincerely welcomes" the government's transfer plan for administrative and public institutions, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, which was released on the 3rd.
Cho Sang-ho, mayor of Sejong city, assessed the transfer plan in a commentary after the government announcement that day as "a historic decision to build a sustainably developing Korea and balanced national growth through completing Sejong as the administrative capital."
Cho said, "If in the first half of next year we prioritize the transfer to Sejong of central ministries with large ripple effects, such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and transfer the Prosecution Service and the Korean National Police Agency by constructing new government buildings, administrative efficiency will greatly improve," adding, "Immediate and close policy coordination with relevant ministries will become possible."
He continued, "The prime minister's firm promise to support without setback the construction of the president's Sejong office in Aug. 2029 and the completion of the National Assembly's Sejong building in 2033 will be a solid cornerstone for the leap to an administrative capital," adding, "We will do our utmost to provide the necessary support in close cooperation with the central government, the Sejong Special Self-Governing City Construction Agency, and Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) and other related agencies so that the transferred institutions can settle quickly and their employees and families can put down roots stably."
He added, "Balanced growth is not a matter of choice but a survival strategy for a sustainable Korea, and as the symbol of balanced growth and the central axis of national governance, completing the administrative capital is a historical inevitability," adding, "We ask the National Assembly to take the lead in enacting the Special Act on the Administrative Capital within this year so that it can complete Sejong as the administrative capital, ease concentration in the capital region, and address local extinction."
