A current civil servant husband accused of tracking down and killing his wife after learning her address from a divorce complaint she filed following domestic violence will undergo a pretrial detention hearing on the 3rd.
The Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court will hold a pretrial detention hearing (warrant review) at 11 a.m. for A, in their 30s, who is accused of murder and violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse).
Whether A is detained is expected to be decided in the afternoon.
At about 9:55 a.m., A left Bundang Police Station with a hat and mask covering the face and boarded a transport vehicle bound for the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court.
A did not answer any questions from reporters, including, "Why did you kill your wife," "Your daughter was watching—didn't you think of anything," "Why did you routinely assault or threaten your wife," and "Do you have anything to say to the bereaved family."
A, a current civil servant, is accused of fatally stabbing a wife in her 30s with a weapon at a staircase in a multi-family home in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, at about 7:17 a.m. on the 1st. The wife had taken refuge there after domestic violence.
A young child was also at the scene at the time, according to authorities. Police said A committed the crime in front of the child, causing emotional abuse, and applied a charge of violating the Child Welfare Act.
It was found that A, fearing an unfavorable outcome in the divorce suit filed by the wife and harboring resentment, located the wife's residence through the address listed in the divorce complaint and then carried out the crime.
Police urgently arrested A about 4 hours and 20 minutes after the crime and sought an arrest warrant the next day, on the 2nd.
