In addition to the government, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, foreign and security ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Unification are also reviewing a transfer to Sejong.
Minister Yoon Ho-jung of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on Dec. 3 at a briefing on the transfer of administrative and public institutions to the provinces, in response to a question about "whether to transfer the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Unification," that "the review of a transfer will be timed to when the presidential office transfers, and also to when the legislature opens a branch in 2033."
The Financial Services Commission, which had been mentioned as a strong candidate for a Sejong transfer, was not named as a transfer target in this announcement. Minister Yoon explained that this does not mean the Financial Services Commission was excluded from the transfer targets. Yoon said, "What I said was that in the fourth quarter we will finalize and announce the transfer plan and the institutions subject to transfer."
The Public Prosecution Service, the Serious Crimes Investigation Service, and the Korean National Police Agency will pursue a transfer after constructing new government complexes. Observers say the transfer of these ministries will take a long time due to site selection and acquisition for the complexes and the construction of the buildings.
