Law firm Jipyong and nonprofit Duru held an event to share the results of their public-interest activities to mark "Jipyong Public-Interest Day" and Duru's founding anniversary.
Jipyong and Duru said on the 2nd that they held a "Public-Interest Day" commemorative event for two days starting on the 1st. After establishing Duru in 2014, Jipyong designated Sept. 1 each year as "Jipyong Public-Interest Day" and has shared with its members the past year's public-interest activities.
At the event, Jipyong and Duru introduced the public-interest activities they carried out over the past year and announced the results and awardees of the "Together for Good 2026–Pro Bono Challenge," which ran for about three months from May.
Pro bono refers to activities in which professionals provide their knowledge and skills to society without compensation. This challenge consisted of the "Good Impact Idea Challenge," in which members proposed ideas for public-interest activities; the "Pro Bono Story Challenge," in which they shared experiences with such work; and the "Together for Good Challenge," team- and group-based volunteer activities.
Starting with Public-Interest Day, Jipyong and Duru plan to continue programs throughout September that members can join. These include a public-interest lecture featuring writer Mun Yu-seok of the drama "Pro Bono," meal-service volunteering, and "No Paper Towel Day."
Attorney Mun Su-saeng, who serves as chair of the Jipyong Public-Interest Committee, said, "Jipyong and Duru will continue a variety of social-contribution activities, including pro bono work based on legal expertise," adding, "Through this, we plan to create the changes needed in our society and to steadily put social responsibility into practice."
