A middle school student in Jeju has been booked by police on suspicion of secretly filming a teacher's body and creating composite images using deepfake technology.
According to Jeju Dongbu Police Station on the 1st, student A, enrolled at a middle school in Jeju, was booked on suspicion of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (camera or similar use for filming).
A is suspected of secretly filming a teacher's body with a cellphone during a field trip on July 14. The school confirmed this on the day of the offense and then submitted a petition to police.
While questioning A, police also found images in which the illegally taken photos were combined with other photos using deepfake technology. Police are currently conducting forensics on A's cellphone and are investigating whether the composites constitute sexual materials and whether the illegal footage was distributed.
Meanwhile, the Jeju Teachers' Union issued a press release after the case became known, urging the Jeju Provincial Office of Education and investigative agencies to protect and support treatment for the victimized teacher.
