The special counsel team of the National Election Commission led by Lee Tae-han, which is investigating the shortage of ballots in the June 3 local elections and other matters, said President Lee Jae-myung appointed five assistant special counsels on the 2nd.
The assistant special counsels are attorneys Park Hyuk (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 22), Kim Eun-jung (class 38), Kim Sang-cheon (Bar Exam 1st), Kwon Geun-hwan (Bar Exam 2nd), and Kim Jin-woo (Bar Exam 3rd).
The special counsel team said it will "conduct the investigation based on objective materials and evidence, without any preconceptions or prejudgments, in accordance with the subjects and scope of investigation set by law."
Assistant special counsel Park served as a prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office and the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office. Park also has experience on assignment to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Assistant special counsel Kim Eun-jung worked as a prosecutorial researcher at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in the Strategic Planning Division's Future Planning Team. Kim also served as a prosecutor at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office.
Assistant special counsel Kim Sang-cheon worked as a researcher at the National Security Technology Research Institute, then served as a prosecutor and as a prosecutor at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
Assistant special counsel Kwon graduated from the Korea National Police University, earned a master's degree at Seoul National University, and graduated from the Sungkyunkwan University law school. Kwon served as an inspector at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and a judge at the Jeonju District Court.
Assistant special counsel Kim Jin-woo served as a member of the investigation review committee at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, ethics director at the Korean Bar Association, and legal advisor to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), among other roles.
