The second comprehensive special prosecutor team (Special Prosecutor Kwon Chang-young) dismissed the case against Chief Justice Jo Hee-de, who was accused of participating in insurrection during the Dec. 3 martial law.
The comprehensive special prosecutor's office said in a press notice on the 1st that "after questioning the complainant regarding the chief justice on the 20th on the, no new facts were confirmed, so we issued a dismissal disposition." A dismissal closes the case without judging the merits.
Chief Justice Jo was accused of failing, as head of the judiciary during the Dec. 3 martial law, to point out the martial law's unconstitutionality and illegality or take appropriate measures to stop it.
Earlier, the insurrection special prosecutor (Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-suk) also looked into the chief justice's insurrection case but issued a nonindictment disposition.
