Police have launched an investigation into allegations of free lending of an office between the Busan Gangseo District Office chief and the Democratic Party of Korea Gangseo District chapter chair.
On the 31st, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency said it booked Gangseo District Office Chief Park Sang-jun and Gangseo District Chairperson Byun Seong-wan of the Democratic Party on charges of violating the Political Funds Act and is questioning them.
Park is accused of providing an office free of charge to Byun more than 20 times last year while serving as a Gangseo District Council member. Byun is understood to have used the office as a meeting venue for the Democratic Party of Korea district committee.
The current Political Funds Act stipulates that lending facilities free of charge also constitutes a donation.
Police said they opened an investigation after receiving a related complaint, adding, "It is difficult to confirm specific details of the investigation."
