Three members of the Korea University Advancement Association who entered the U.S. Forces Korea Osan Air Base (K-55) without authorization and shouted slogans have been sent to trial.
On the 31st, the Criminal Division 2 of the Pyeongtaek Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors Office (Chief Prosecutor Shin Hyun-man) indicted two members of the Korea University Advancement Association, including a person identified as A, under detention on charges of violating the Act on the Protection of Military Bases and Installations and jointly trespassing in a building, and indicted one without detention.
At about 10:15 a.m. on the 4th, they are accused of passing through the main gate of Osan Air Base, a U.S. Forces Korea facility in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, and entering the base without authorization.
At the time, they shouted slogans such as "Smash the U.S. 7th Air Force that obstructs Honam Semiconductor" and filmed the scene on video, it was found. They were arrested on the spot by U.S. forces as flagrant offenders immediately after the offense, and their custody was then handed over to Korean police.
Police initially referred all three to prosecutors under detention. However, one of them was released on the 26th after the court accepted a detention validity review, and in the end only two were indicted under detention.
They reportedly exercised their right to remain silent during the investigation and questioning.
