Kim Soyoung, 20, who was sent to trial on charges of serially killing men by making them drink beverages laced with drugs in the Gangbuk District of Seoul, appealed against the life sentence in the first trial.
According to legal sources, on the 31st, Kim submitted a notice of appeal to the court on the 28th. It was the day after the first-trial verdict.
The Criminal Division 14 of the Seoul Northern District Court (presiding judge Oh Byeong-hee, senior judge) sentenced Kim Soyoung to life in prison on the 26th and ordered her to wear a location-tracking electronic device (electronic anklet) for 30 years.
Kim Soyoung was arrested and indicted on charges of handing beverages mixed with psychotropic drugs to three men in their 20s from December last year to February this year, killing two and leaving one in a coma. She was additionally indicted on charges of injuring three men in their 20s and 30s using the same method from October last year to January this year.
The first-trial panel found not guilty only on the charge of aggravated assault against one of the six victims, citing insufficient proof.
Prosecutors have not yet filed a notice of appeal with the court.
