Additional remains of a Chinese international student who was killed by a Chinese university lecturer in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, have been found. The site where the remains were discovered was reportedly the location identified by the suspect lecturer.
According to the Gyeongsan Police Station in North Gyeongsang on the 30th, police additionally recovered parts of the victim's body on the 29th while searching the disposal site described by a Chinese university lecturer, a person surnamed Jeong, 31.
Jeong is said to be giving a relatively detailed account to police about the place where the body was abandoned.
Police plan to continue the search to recover as much of the remaining body as possible. A police official said, "We have to keep checking; we do not end the search just because (the body) was found once at a location," adding, "It seems difficult to find all of (the abandoned remains) by the time of transfer."
Police also secured global positioning system (GPS) data containing the routes Jeong took while disposing of the body. Based on this, they are verifying Jeong's movements before and after the crime.
However, police said they cannot disclose Jeong's specific statements or the motive for the crime.
Police plan to wrap up the remaining investigation, including analysis of seized items, verification of the suspect's statements, and recovery of the remains. They are considering transferring Jeong to prosecutors next week. The specific transfer date has not yet been set.
Jeong, who worked as an adjunct lecturer at a university in Gyeongsan, was arrested on charges including murder and desecration of a body for killing a Chinese female international student who had previously taken Jeong's class at Jeong's residence on the 20th and mutilating the body.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crime and the process of disposing of the body based on evidence and statements secured from Jeong's residence and other locations.
