On Monday the 31st, rain is expected in most parts of the country. In particular, heavy rain will continue mainly in the Chungcheong region and the southern provinces, and with heavy rain warnings already issued in the south, the government activated level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 30th, on the 31st the country will be cloudy under the influence of a stationary front, with rain in most areas. In the southern provinces and Jeju Island, most of the rain will stop during the night on the 31st (6 p.m.–midnight), but in the central region, some areas will see it continue until the morning of Sept. 1.
In the southern provinces, heavy rain poured down from the afternoon of the 30th, and emergency heavy rain alerts were sent to many areas. With heavy rain advisories issued, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety raised the heavy rain disaster alert level from "attention" to "caution" from 4 p.m. that day and activated level 1 of the central headquarters.
As of 5 p.m. that day, heavy rain warnings were issued for Nakwol-myeon in Yeongwang and Hwasun in South Jeolla, Cheongdo in North Gyeongsang, northern Geochang in South Gyeongsang, and eastern Ulsan. Heavy rain advisories were issued for Gwangyang, southeastern Naju, Boseong, Suncheon, Jangheung, Yeongam, Yeonggwang County (excluding Nakwol-myeon), and Jangseong in South Jeolla; western and eastern Gwangju; western Gyeongju and Seongju in North Gyeongsang; and Jangsu in North Jeolla.
The Korea Meteorological Administration also expected heavy rain to continue mainly in the southern provinces on the 31st. In some areas of Gwangju–South Jeolla and Busan–Ulsan–South Gyeongsang, very heavy rain of more than 50 mm per hour may fall until dawn or morning. More than 50 mm per hour is also expected in northwestern North Jeolla.
Very heavy rain will also concentrate in the Chungcheong region. Along the South Chungcheong west coast, some places may see torrential downpours of more than 80 mm per hour at times in the morning on the 31st. In Daejeon, Sejong, inland South Chungcheong, and parts of North Chungcheong, very heavy rain of more than 50 mm per hour may fall between dawn and morning.
In southern Gyeonggi and the inland and mountainous areas of southern Gangwon, more than 50 mm of rain per hour is also expected.
From the 31st to Sept. 1, expected precipitation is 50–100 mm in southern Gyeonggi (more than 150 mm in some places), 30–80 mm in Seoul, Incheon, and northern Gyeonggi, 20–60 mm in the five West Sea islands, 30–80 mm in Gangwon Province (more than 120 mm in southern Gangwon inland and mountains), 80–150 mm in Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong (more than 250 mm along the South Chungcheong west coast, more than 200 mm in inland Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong), and 50–150 mm in North Chungcheong (more than 200 mm in some places).
On the 31st, rain will be 20–80 mm in North Jeolla (more than 120 mm in northwestern North Jeolla in some places), 30–80 mm in Gwangju and South Jeolla, 10–40 mm in southeastern North Jeolla, 30–80 mm in central and northern North Gyeongsang and in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang, 20–60 mm in Daegu and southern North Gyeongsang and on Ulleungdo and Dokdo, and 5–40 mm on Jeju Island.
The government asked relevant agencies to strengthen safety inspections, focusing on vulnerable areas such as landslide-prone slopes, steep slopes, retaining walls, and embankments, noting that in areas recently hit by heavy rain and wildfires, even small amounts of rain could cause additional damage.
In areas where it rains, very heavy and significant rainfall accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning may occur, so caution is needed to prevent accidents and damage to facilities.
Despite the rain, heat will continue mainly in the southern provinces and Jeju Island. The maximum heat index will rise to around 33 C, and some places will see tropical nights.
Morning lows are expected to be 20–26 C, with daytime highs of 24–34 C.
Morning lows in major areas are 23 C in Seoul, 23 C in Incheon, 22 C in Suwon, 22 C in Chuncheon, 22 C in Gangneung, 23 C in Daejeon, 23 C in Cheongju, 26 C in Gwangju, 24 C in Jeonju, 26 C in Busan, 26 C in Ulsan, 25 C in Daegu, and 26 C in Jeju.
Daytime highs are 26 C in Seoul, 26 C in Incheon, 25 C in Suwon, 25 C in Chuncheon, 25 C in Gangneung, 27 C in Daejeon, 26 C in Cheongju, 32 C in Gwangju, 30 C in Jeonju, 34 C in Busan, 34 C in Ulsan, 32 C in Daegu, and 31 C in Jeju.
Fine dust levels are expected to be "good" across all regions due to smooth air dispersion and the effects of precipitation.
