Police took into custody a Chinese university lecturer, arrested on suspicion of murdering a Chinese international student who attended the lecturer's class in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, and began searching for the body with the suspect.
According to the Gyeongsan Police Station in North Gyeongsang on the 29th, police deployed detectives from the morning on the 28th and have been moving by car with a Chinese lecturer, a person surnamed Jeong, 31, who was arrested on suspicion including murder, to identify the locations where the body was abandoned.
Police believe Jeong killed the victim at Jeong's home, dismembered the body, and abandoned it at multiple locations nationwide. Based on Jeong's movements after the crime, they are pinpointing the exact dumping sites while expanding the search nationwide.
The victim's family members arrived in Korea the previous day and were questioned by police, according to reports. Police plan to call in the family as reference witnesses to check what relationship the victim and Jeong usually had.
Psychological support for the family is also underway. Police reportedly assigned two psychological support staffers from the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division to help stabilize the family. Employees presumed to be officials from the Chinese consulate also visited the Gyeongsan Police Station at about 4 p.m. the previous day.
