Jang (in her 30s), who was found dead 101 days after going missing due to a false case closure by an on-duty police officer, took her final journey as her family bid farewell.
According to Newsis on the 28th, Jang's funeral procession began at about 10 a.m. that day at a funeral hall in Jeju City. When it was time, Jang's parents and older brother followed the portrait of the deceased out of the mourning room, joined by relatives and her boyfriend.
The hearse left the funeral hall at about 10:30 a.m. and headed to Yangji Park in Jeju City. Jang's body is to be cremated there and then moved to the mainland for burial.
Earlier, the bereaved family said, "We want to focus only on seeing our younger sister off," and asked, "Please pay attention to the police who falsely closed the missing-person report and the status of the investigation into it."
Meanwhile, Sergeant Parent (in their 30s) of the missing-persons team at Jeju Seobu Police Station was arrested on charges that include falsely closing Jang's missing-person report filed on May 15. The officer is also suspected of falsely closing another case involving a missing person in their 60s in the same manner.
Jang was found dead on the 24th in Hallim-eup, Jeju City. Sergeant Bu initially claimed "spoke with Jang," but after call records and other evidence were presented, acknowledged the statement was false and admitted part of the charges.
