A Chinese adjunct instructor accused of killing a Chinese female international student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, reportedly refused to undergo a psychopath assessment.
According to police and others on the 28th, the Gyeongsan Police Station tried to conduct a psychopath assessment on the previous day for the suspect, a person surnamed Jeong, 31, who was arrested on charges including murder and obstruction of official duties by deception, but Jeong did not comply.
Because a psychopath assessment is conducted through an interview with the subject, it is said to be difficult to proceed by force if the subject refuses. Jeong initially agreed to the assessment but reportedly changed stance abruptly.
Jeong is suspected of killing a Chinese female international student in her 20s, identified as A, who had entered Korea to receive a graduate program completion certificate, at Jeong's residence in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, in the early morning on the 20th, then mutilating the body and abandoning it in several locations nationwide.
Jeong is also suspected of filing a false report with police to mislead the investigation and, while dressed as a woman, taking a taxi to Dongdaegu Station and turning off the victim's mobile phone.
Jeong confessed to parts of the crimes, including the killing, but told police that the act was impulsive during a dispute with A, who had been in a romantic relationship with Jeong.
However, police believe that the suspect could give a statement favorable to Jeongself since the victim is already dead, and are conducting mobile phone forensics and other procedures to verify the actual relationship between the two. Considering the cruelty of the crime, police are also coordinating the schedule for a panel to decide whether to disclose Jeong's personal information.
