A Vietnamese student in his 20s studying in Korea was arrested on a warrant on suspicion of killing a Vietnamese female college student who attended the same university in Busan and stealing her valuables.
According to legal sources, Um Ji-a, a warrant judge at the Busan District Court, issued an arrest warrant for A, a Vietnamese man in his 20s suspected of robbery and murder.
The court said it issued the warrant because "there is a risk of flight."
A is suspected of threatening B, a Vietnamese woman in her 20s, with a weapon at her home in Jung-gu, Busan, at about 1:15 a.m. on the 26th, stealing her valuables and killing her.
A and B were said to have known each other as they attended a university in Busan together.
Police urgently arrested A at a hospital in Sasang-gu, Busan, on the day of the crime.
A reportedly told police during questioning that the crime was committed because of debt from gambling.
Police plan to verify whether A's statement matches the actual circumstances of the crime and further investigate the extent of the damage and the specific motive.
