After four people who were recently reported missing in Jeju were found dead in quick succession, a so-called "missing persons map" marking their discovery sites is spreading online. Some are also spreading rumors about an "organ trafficking ring."
On the 27th, online communities and social networking services (SNS) were sharing a map summarizing the locations and discovery times of the four missing people found dead in Jeju from the 22nd to the 24th. The areas marked on the map include Hallim-eup, Aewol-eup, Jocheon-eup, and Gujwa-eup in Jeju City.
The body of Jang Mi-ran, 37, who went missing in Jeju, was found around 10:46 a.m. on the 24th in a palm grove in Suwon-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City. It was 104 days after the disappearance. At 9:35 a.m. the same day, a man was found dead near a valley in Aewol-eup, Jeju City.
Earlier, in the afternoon on the 23rd, a man in his 70s was found dead at sea off Sinheung-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju City, and on the 22nd, a man in his 60s was found dead in Songdang-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City.
After four people were found dead over three days, speculation online is trying to link the cases to each other or to specific crimes or foreigners. Some YouTube channels and on SNS are also spreading unverified claims such as "There is an organ trafficking ring in Jeju."
So far, no facts have been confirmed to show that these four deaths are related to one another.
