One member of the Korea University Advancement Association who had been detained on charges of trespassing at the U.S. Forces Korea Osan Air Base (K-55), shouting slogans, and filming video has been released.
According to legal sources on the 27th, of the three detained members of the Korea University Advancement Association who filed for a review of detention legality with the court, one was granted the previous day and the other two were rejected.
The Korea University Advancement Association disclosed this via social media (SNS), saying, "Thanks to the many members of the public who supported us, those who joined the release countermeasure committee, and the hard work of the attorneys, we were able to win the review of detention legality that was considered difficult."
It added, "The rejection of the two detention legality reviews shows that the judiciary is still siding with the United States and turning away from law and justice."
Earlier, the Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi Province referred three members of the Korea University Advancement Association to detention on charges of violating the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act and trespassing into a joint building.
They are accused of trespassing through the main gate of Osan Air Base at about 10:15 a.m. on the 4th and shouting slogans such as "Smash the U.S. 7th Air Force that is obstructing Honam Semiconductor."
At the time, eight people entered the base, including four men and four women. The U.S. military arrested them in the act and handed them over to Korean police.
