Amid allegations that a Jeju police officer, who was arrested on charges of falsely closing a report of a missing woman, broke into the women's restroom at a police station, it has been confirmed that the officer's DNA was detected at the scene.
According to police and others on the 27th, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency booked and is investigating Sergeant A (34) of the Jeju Seobu Police Station on suspicion of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Sergeant A is said to have been discovered by a female police officer after entering the women's restroom at the police station where the sergeant worked on the 22nd of last month.
At the time, no illegal recording camera was found in the restroom. However, handprints were found around the ceiling and above the entrance, and DNA collected by police from those traces matched that of Sergeant A.
Regarding why the sergeant entered the women's restroom at the time, A reportedly explained that "the men's restroom had no toilet paper, so I used the women's restroom." Police are investigating the specific circumstances under which A entered the women's restroom.
