A Chinese university lecturer accused of killing a Chinese female international student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, acknowledged part of the crime during a police investigation, authorities confirmed.
According to the Gyeongsan Police Station in North Gyeongsang on the 27th, a Chinese university lecturer in his 30s, a person surnamed Jeong, who is facing charges including murder, said in the course of questioning that he killed the victim, a person identified only as A, 25, at dawn on the 20th.
A was last captured on closed-circuit (CC) TV in front of Jeong's home around 2 a.m. on the 20th. It was also determined that A last contacted family in China around the same time.
The CCTV footage shows A entering the residence with Jeong, but no circumstances indicating A was forcibly dragged were confirmed, according to reports. Police are also further checking Jeong's residence, movements before and after the crime, and the location where the body was abandoned.
Jeong was arrested at about 7:29 p.m. on the 25th on a road in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, on suspicion of killing A, who had entered Korea to receive a graduate school certificate of completion.
Police, citing concerns about destruction of evidence and flight risk, sought an arrest warrant for Jeong the previous day. A pretrial detention warrant hearing for Jeong is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Daegu District Court.
In addition, police are coordinating an autopsy schedule to determine A's exact time and cause of death.
