A Chinese university lecturer accused of killing a Chinese female international student and mutilating the body has been arrested.
On the 27th, Hwang In-jun, the judge in charge of warrants at the Daegu District Court, issued an arrest warrant after conducting a pre-arrest detention hearing for a Chinese national in his 30s, a university lecturer identified by the surname Jeong.
The court cited a flight risk as the reason for issuing the warrant.
Jeong is accused of killing A, a 25-year-old Chinese female international student, at his residence in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, in the early morning on the 20th and then mutilating the body. He is also suspected of obstructing the investigation by attempting to stage the victim's movements while wearing women's clothing, constituting obstruction of official duties.
The victim, who was attending a graduate school in Gyeongsan, had returned to China for the vacation and reentered on the 14th to attend the commencement ceremony. However, she reportedly lost contact with family and acquaintances from late afternoon on the 20th, the day the ceremony was held.
