A man in his 40s who entered a women's restroom naked in Seodaemun District, Seoul, has been taken into custody by police. In the nearby area around Yonsei University's Sinchon campus, a man wearing a mask while naked has also been spotted repeatedly in recent days, and police are tracking him.
According to police on the 25th, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul booked a man in his 40s, identified only as A, on suspicion of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and is investigating.
A is suspected of entering a women's restroom in a commercial building in Hongje-dong, Seodaemun District, at about 7:30 p.m. on the 21st naked except for fishnet stockings. When a woman in the restroom spotted A and tried to report it, A moved to the men's restroom, changed clothes, and fled, it was found.
Police who received the report tracked A's movements based on photos taken by a witness and closed-circuit (CC)TV footage. About an hour after the report, they found A about 400 meters from the scene and brought the person in for a voluntary interview.
Police are also investigating the so-called "masked naked man," who has been spotted three times around Yonsei University over the past two months. In June, a report of forcible molestation was filed near a Yonsei dormitory, and last month a man hiding naked in the brush along the Ansan Jarak-gil trail was seen. On the 19th, a man wearing a mask while naked sexually molested an enrolled student near Yonsei's Muak Dormitory and then fled.
Police are analyzing CCTV footage and DNA, keeping in mind the possibility that the incidents were committed by the same person.
