Evidence has emerged that Sergeant Bu (34) of Jeju Seobu Police Station, accused of falsely closing a missing-person report for Jang Mi-ran (37), processed it as a "traffic accident casualty" and deleted the case records.
According to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency on the 25th, Sergeant Bu, when closing Jang's missing-person report in the "missing person profiling management list" system, entered "traffic accident casualty." In that list, subjects of missing-person reports are categorized into four types: "missing children, etc.," "runaways," "deceased persons," and "traffic accident casualties."
Sergeant Bu received Jang's missing-person report through 112 at about 6:43 p.m. on May 14. Afterward, Sergeant Bu said "contact was made with Jang" and closed the case at about 9:16 p.m. the same day.
On this day, Sergeant Bu underwent a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review) on charges of falsely closing Jang's case and another missing-person case involving a man in his 60s, and even deleting the records from the computer network.
Jeju District Court is expected to decide by this afternoon whether to issue an arrest warrant for Sergeant Bu.
