The identity of Kim Sang-su, 52, who is accused of killing a former partner who filed a stalking complaint against him, has been disclosed.
Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said it will disclose on its website for one month, from 9 a.m. on the 25th to 9 a.m. on the 24th of next month, personal information including Kim Sang-su's name, age, and facial photo (mug shot). When the disclosure period ends, the information will be deleted.
Earlier, on the 18th, police held a committee meeting on the disclosure of personal information and decided to release Kim Sang-su's identity. However, because Kim Sang-su filed an objection to the disclosure decision, the actual disclosure time was delayed. Under the current law on the disclosure of personal information for serious crimes, if a suspect does not consent to disclosure, a grace period of at least five days must be given.
Kim Sang-su is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her 60s with a weapon at about 3 a.m. on the 5th of last month in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon District, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, whom he had dated for four years in the past.
According to the police investigation, when the victim filed a stalking complaint against Kim Sang-su and he faced punishment, he held a grudge and committed the crime. Evidence also showed he prepared for the crime in a premeditated manner, including purchasing a weapon in advance.
Applying the charge of retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, which carries a heavier statutory penalty than simple murder, police referred Kim Sang-su to prosecutors in custody on the 19th.
