Political broker Myung Tae-gyun was released on bail on the 25th and said, "As an ordinary man living in the countryside, I made the nation noisy and caused worry and concern to the people," adding, "I sincerely apologize."
Around 1:56 p.m. that day, Myung left the Seoul Detention Center and told reporters, "I am truly grateful to the judiciary for granting bail," making the above remarks.
Regarding the Kim Keon-hee special counsel's argument to keep the detention in place, Myung said, "I believe every ruling handed down by the judiciary of the Republic of Korea must be respected."
Myung was indicted by the Kim Keon-hee special counsel on charges of providing opinion polls free of charge to former President Yoon Suk-yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee. He was sentenced to prison in the first trial and taken into custody in court, and was released after 43 days.
The Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul High Court, Myung's appellate panel (presiding judge Koo Hoe-geun), granted Myung's bail request the previous day. At a bail hearing on the 21st, Myung said his vision in the left eye had deteriorated significantly, adding, "When I go out for (outpatient) treatment, (other) inmates accuse me of getting special favors."
In granting bail, the court imposed conditions barring Myung from contacting parties related to the case and from giving media interviews. It also ordered that if summoned by the court, he must appear at the designated time and place, and if he intends to leave the country or travel for three days or more, he must obtain prior court approval.
