In Jeju, bodies believed to be missing people have been found one after another over the past three days. A total of four bodies have been found so far.
According to Jeju police and others on the 24th, at about 10:46 a.m. a body believed to be Jang Mi-ran, 37, who went missing in May, was found near Hallim-eup in Jeju City.
It surfaced 104 days after the disappearance, near the lodging where there had been a long-term stay.
At about 9:35 a.m. the same day, another person reported missing to police was also found near a valley in Aewol-eup, Jeju City.
On the 22nd and 23rd just prior, a man in his 60s, identified as A, and a man in his 70s, identified as B, who had also been reported missing, were found dead.
The sergeant in charge, who closed Jang's case on their own after the missing-person report, is said to have also falsely closed Mr. A's case using a similar method.
The sergeant was urgently arrested on the 22nd on suspicion of false closure but was released after filing for a legality review of the arrest with the court the next day.
The Jeju District Court said the emergency arrest did not meet the "urgency" required under the Criminal Procedure Act.
