YouTuber Park Wi released and then deleted a video of a fall accident that occurred while getting off a KTX train and apologized, but controversy continues. An internet user who identified as a train engineer explained the working conditions of on-site staff and demanded that Park Wi apologize again.
On the 24th, critical comments poured in on the apology posted to Park Wi's YouTube channel "Wiracle." A person identified as A, who introduced themself as a train engineer, left a lengthy comment explaining that station staff and social service agents coordinate door positions by communicating with the engineer via radio to ensure safe boarding and alighting for wheelchair users.
A said staff sometimes brace the equipment with their feet to prevent the lift from rising while a wheelchair is boarding, and argued that this accident also appears to have happened accidentally during that process. A then noted, "If you want to assign blame, blame the unstable equipment. Why try to dunk on the people working hard on the scene?"
A continued, "Social service agents all have some illness or impairment that led them to become agents, yet they do not show it and really work diligently," adding, "You are being criticized because you criticized someone devoted to their duties, so rather than this insincere apology post, I hope you offer a proper apology in the correct format."
B, who said they have long been a fan of Park Wi and is a social welfare major and the mother of a child with autism, also said, "Among social service agents are people who graduated from special classes and are left in the blind spots of welfare," adding, "For some, the video could be another wound and discrimination."
Earlier, on the 21st, Park Wi posted on YouTube closed-circuit (CC)TV footage of a fall accident that occurred on the 14th on a KTX platform. The video showed a wheelchair tipping over when a wheel caught on a social service agent's foot while going down a ramp. Park Wi argued that meticulous training is needed for the safety of wheelchair users, but releasing even the scene of the social service agent apologizing on site drew criticism as excessive.
As the controversy grew, Park Wi deleted the video and apologized, saying, "I failed to consider the position of the worker who did their best to help and apologized."
