A body believed to be Jang Mi-ran, 37, who had been missing for more than three months, has been found.
Jeju National Police Agency said that during a joint search at 10:46 a.m. on the 24th, they found a body believed to be Jang.
Police plan to confirm the identity through forensics.
Jeju Seobu Police Station received a missing person report for Jang on May 5. But Sergeant A, who handled the case, closed it falsely, saying "contact was made with the missing person."
After two months passed with no contact with Jang, Jang's family filed another missing person report with police. In the reinvestigation, it was revealed that Sergeant A had closed the case with a false report and deleted Jang-related data from the management list of the missing-person profiling system.
Sergeant A was found on the 2nd of last month to have falsely closed another missing person case using a similar method. Police on the day sought an arrest warrant for Sergeant A on charges including dereliction of duty, falsification and use of official electronic records, and obstruction of the performance of official duties by deceit.
