The second special counsel said on the 20th it had sent five former prosecutors, including former Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office chief Lee Chang-su, to trial on charges including forging and using false official documents in connection with the so-called "Kim Keon-hee probe interference allegations."
The special counsel said in a media notice that day that it indicted without detention five people, including former chief Lee; then-Head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 Choi Jae-hun; and former deputy chief prosecutor Seo Min-seok, on charges including forging and using false official documents.
The special counsel explained it confirmed that the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, in connection with the allegations of quashing the probe into Kim's Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, used improper methods to shape an investigative conclusion for a nonindictment.
The special counsel said, "We plan to seek disciplinary action regarding parts where problems were identified during the investigation," adding, "We will do our utmost to maintain the prosecution so that sentences commensurate with the defendants' crimes can be handed down."
