At an intersection in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang, a dump truck and a garbage truck collided, killing three sanitation workers and seriously injuring the dump truck driver.
According to police and others on the 19th, at about 4:03 a.m. that day, a 25-ton (t) dump truck and a 6t garbage truck collided at Dodong Intersection in Yeongcheon.
Two people in their 60s and one person in their 40s who were riding in the garbage truck were taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest but died. The dump truck driver in his 70s was also seriously injured and is being treated at a hospital.
The three who died were sanitation workers at a company contracted to collect municipal waste and were reportedly in transit to their workplace for early-morning duties when the crash occurred.
The front of the garbage truck was heavily damaged by the impact, and the dump truck tipped over beside the road.
At the time of the crash, the intersection was operating on flashing signals. Police believe the two vehicles entered the intersection without seeing each other and collided.
Police are analyzing vehicle dashcam and nearby closed-circuit (CC)TV footage to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
