An on-duty police officer who caused a disturbance at a bar while drunk after identifying as a "police officer conducting undercover inspections" has been sent to prosecutors.
According to the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency on the 19th, a sergeant in his 30s, identified as A, who is accused of violating the Minor Offenses Act, was recently referred to prosecutors.
Sergeant A is accused of causing a disturbance at a bar in Wansan District, Jeonju, in June while drunk, saying things like, "I'm a police officer with the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency and am conducting undercover inspections," and "I will report you for violating the Food Sanitation Act."
In a police interview, Sergeant A reportedly said the situation at the time was hard to remember.
After the incident, the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency transferred Sergeant A to the Gimje Police Station. With the investigation concluded and the case sent to prosecutors, police also plan to conduct an internal affairs probe into Sergeant A.
A police official said, "We recently received notice that Sergeant A was referred to prosecutors," adding, "With the police investigation finished, the Gimje Police Station will conduct an internal affairs investigation."
