The Korea Forest Service said on the 17th it urgently provided recovery equipment and personnel to areas of Geoje and Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang, that were damaged by record-breaking torrential rain.
At the site that day, a total of 37 pieces of equipment, including high-performance, multipurpose wildfire engines, excavators, and trucks, and 76 members of the special forest disaster suppression unit were deployed.
A field response support team led by a Director General-level Director has been dispatched to support on-site damage recovery work. For safety checks during landslide damage recovery, four teams (eight people) of landslide specialists from the Korea Forest Disaster Safety Technology Agency have been sent to the site to use drones and carry out additional measures to prevent further damage.
Lee Yong-gwon, forest disaster control officer at the Korea Forest Service, said, "If local governments request recovery support in the future, we will actively use the personnel and equipment owned by the Korea Forest Service to support the prompt recovery of the affected areas."
