Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, filed a final appeal against the remand ruling in the 944 billion won property division suit with Roh Soh-yeong, director of Art Center Nabi.
The legal team for Chairman Chey said on the 14th, "Chairman Chey, after careful consideration of various circumstances, submitted a petition of appeal."
It added, "We will proceed with the next steps with the aim of minimizing negative impacts on shareholders and group management."
On the afternoon of the same day, Chey's legal representative filed the appeal with the Seoul High Court, which heard the remand trial. As a result, the legal battle between Chairman Chey and Director Roh, which began in 2017, will again go before the Supreme Court.
On the 24th of last month, the Seoul High Court's Family Division 1 set the property division ratio for Chairman Chey and Director Roh at two-thirds and one-third, respectively, and ordered Chey to pay Roh 944 billion won in cash as property division.
Before the remand, the Seoul High Court's Family Division 2 in May 2024 set Roh's property division ratio at 35% and ordered a payment of 1.3808 trillion won. The Supreme Court's First Division in Oct. last year remanded the property division portion, saying the 30 billion won support from former President Roh Tae-woo's side could not be assessed as contributing to Roh's asset formation.
In the remand trial, while excluding the 30 billion won from Roh's contribution factors, the court set Roh's property division ratio at about 33.3%. Chey's side is expected to detail specific grounds for objection regarding the division ratio and the scope and valuation method of assets in a forthcoming appeal brief.
