Baek In-cheon, the only .400 hitter in Korea Baseball Organization history and the manager who led the LG Twins to their first Korean Series title, died at 6:41 a.m. on the 15th. He was 83.
Baek played 23 years in professional baseball in Korea and Japan, leaving a distinct mark on Korea's baseball history.
He moved to Nippon Professional Baseball in 1963 and played in more than 1,500 games, and in 1975 won the Pacific League batting title.
In 1982, when the Korea Baseball Organization launched, he played for the MBC Blue Dragons as a player-manager and hit .412. It remains the only .400 season in Korea Baseball Organization history and has stood for more than 40 years.
He also left major achievements as a manager. He managed the LG Twins, Samsung Lions, and Lotte Giants, and in 1990, as the LG Twins' inaugural manager, he led the team to the top of the Korean Series. He etched his name in club history by guiding LG to its first Korean Series championship.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) decided to hold the league's second-ever KBO funeral to honor the deceased's contributions to the development of Korean baseball.
The wake has been set up in the Traditional Room on the second floor of the funeral hall at Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan. The funeral procession is at 8 a.m. on the 17th.
